the heart remembers

Words don’t suffice.

There aren’t enough that can express.

A and E, let my heart talk to yours.

You are so adored by your hard-working and fun-loving parents, grandparents, aunties, and uncles: Life will be a great adventure.

Along the way, we’ll surround you and pray you’ll be surrounded by God’s angels too.

Your Nonny wasn’t prepared. Yes, I was prepared to love and hold you … but not for how all-consuming my thoughts would be now that you both exist in this world.

You’re no longer part of our “someday” but are living, breathing members of our family, the human race, and God’s eternal Kingdom.

I will pray for you each day. Here’s one for this moment:

Thank you, oh Lord, for my granddaughters, for the wonderful gifts they are and the immense joy they bring.

May they forever be treated fairly—with kindness, tenderness, compassion, and respect. Let their innocence be preserved.

Please let them know the protection, empathy, and grace of yourself and others.

Let them be children for as long as they can.

Draw them closer and closer to you the older and older they become.

May they live with purpose—honoring and glorifying you with their life’s workevery one of their days. We thank you and praise you!

Amen

Recollections may falter and early experiences are not often recalled, but our hearts remember those who cherish us.

Our hearts hold on to that sweet fullness and hope.

Our hearts remember and reside in that sacred love and pass it on.

What words are sufficient to relay how much you mean?

I’ve yet to find one that satisfies, but, fortunately, they aren’t always necessary.

Love says it all.

Dear Birdie and Bunny, we love you, we love you, we love you, we love you!!!!!

1 John 4 : 19 We love each other because he loved us first.

Deuteronomy 7 : 9 Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.

  1. Congratulations to you, Debbie, and to Craig. Such fun ahead and I love your prayer for them. Keep praying hard because it is a tough world as they grow up. Always so thankful for the extra years of innocence Covid gave my grandchildren. Time to be home and playing vs. all the issues they encountered on the school bus and in school. The girls head to junior high next year and we are all very concerned for what they will encounter. They have been exposed to so many things they are not ready for and we had hoped we wouldn’t have to address yet. God Bless your God loving family and I sure hope the world becomes a better place for all of us. THank you for continuing to keep me in your loop. Love to all. Lil

    1. Hi Lil, love to you all too! Yes, it sure is, but I know our grandparent prayers are so powerful! And God is sovereign over this time in history and all the issues that scare and overwhelm us. I’m glad your grandchildren had that extra time. Praying that it all goes well for them next year! God bless you and Paul and your entire family also ❤️

  2. Beautifully written Debbie! I love all the pics🩷

  3. Debbie, that was beautifully well done ❤️ I’ve been thinking of you & your family lately. The girls are getting so so big. What a joy!! And with every year it just gets better and better. I can’t believe that my oldest granddaughter is 34 yrs old and the youngest great-grandson is 1 yr & 4mos and the love grows on & on. One day soon Debbie I will call you. I just need to hear your voice. Love You & give a big Hi & Love to your family.

  4. Delightful pictures, and a heart-touching prayer, Debbie. We have three granddaughters. I blinked, and now they’re seven, almost eleven, and fifteen. What a privilege we have to pray for them, that God grow them to love him–then the rest will be taken care of as well.

    1. Thank you, Nancy. Yes, the time sure does go by in a flash! What a great reminder that it’s a divine privilege to pray for their relationship with God and a comfort to remember that He will take care of the rest. Big blessings to your three grand girls, and thanks always for your encouraging words!
